Filming documentary Part Summer ☀️.
Another few GREAT days filled with nature in Idre, early mornings, spectacular views, reindeer everywhere, laughter, tacos, flipbooks and a few tears.
Again in great company of Executive Producer Marija @mrv_2911 (makes even a mean strawberrycake) Camerawoman Rebecca (can't be stopped by little water) and Line Producer Arjan (also known as husband).
Can't express in words how special this experience has been. Only a few more filmdays left and I know already I will miss our little filmteamcommunity hugely.

A lot can happen in three days.

Those who developed Toxic Epidermal Necrolys know this very well. From a light rash to blisters to skin falling off. A terrifying experience with life changing consequences. Not only for survivors but also for their loved ones.

A lot can happen in three days.
In my case - when it turned and I improved - things also happened very fast. From almost dying to being able to eat breakfast, being able to go out of my bed, seeing myself in the mirror, talking with my children.

A lot can happen in three days.

We think about that during this time - Easter. ✝️

Never EVER could I imagine I one day would tolerat

Never EVER could I imagine I one day would tolerate the sun and tropical heat the way as I can this summer! After surviving TEN 13 years ago, it has been close to impossible to sit in the sun at all or to be outside when the temperature was over 25 degrees.
This summer I don't immediately get blisters on exposed skin and I don't develop a fever directly after being in a hot environment. I can cool down in a pool again - just as normal people! I can apply sunscreen which prevents me from burning - just as normal people!
I imagine it is hard to understand how not being able to be in the sun and not tolerating heat affects one. It hugely does! Planning ahead- covering your body - applying sunscreen - adjust your plans - recover from fever - recover from exhaustion. It affects you.

This year I have noticed long- awaited improvements. And I embrace them.
I am - of course - a bit sceptical if they will last. But for now I embrace them with gratitude!

If I have to guess why I tolerate sun and warmth so much better this year I would say that it is because of me being so much more stable, physically and mentally. I don't test my boundaries as much as I have done in the past, I accept being another person than I used to be. I embrace my TEN survival story - at last - and try to create awareness as much as possible, both for the physical life changing effects as for the emotional.

Ps 1: The photo was taken on Fuerteventura, at ca 17 o'clock, 30 degrees and I managed to sit there for about 10 min 😅. It was too hot for anyone - not just for me!!
Ps 2: Good thing we bought a house with a pool! 👊🏻🎉
Ps 3: In the background you can see the mountain I broke my leg a few years ago which strangely enough led to emotional recovery.

På måndag 28 april håller jag i en föreläsning om hur ett fysiskt trauma påverkar det psykiska måendet. Hur TEN påverkade min psykiska hälsa så djupt och så länge.
Ni som känner mig - det kommer förstås bli en del skratt men jag vill också bjuda på en uppriktig berättelse om hur en vanlig kvinna plötsligt ställs inför en ovanlig situation och att hon helt tappar bort sig själv.
Utöver att få kunskap om TEN så får du ta del av en människans inre styrka och ett hopp som lyser även i det djupaste mörkret.

In May last year I had the opportunity to participate in a documentary from a Dutch tv broadcasting company EO ( @omroepeo ). The theme of this series of documentaries is called De Verandering (@eodeverandering );The Transformation'. In the series, Mirjam Bouwman interviews people that have gone through a challenging time in their lives and explores how faith in God and/or His intervention has played a crucial part in the healing process.

It was such an honor to participate! My wish to spread knowledge about TEN - Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis came true by reaching multiple hundreds of thousands of viewers.

I am so proud of the result. It was quite scary to show so much
vulnerability - especially because I share my mental health challenges and I talk about my faith - a fundamental part of my life.

And now 🥁🥁🥁 it has even become available on Youtube!! So it is available globally!! 🌍
For me it has been a great wish to be able to show this documentary to my dear friends in Sweden and in other non-Dutch speaking countries!

As a result of a severe allergic reaction on medicine in 2012 my life was turned upside down completely. Our stay at Playitas Resort many years later helped me to heal - both physically as mentally. The healing came through writing down my story. My book both starts as finishes at your wonderful resort. The pages in between describe the journey I have made.
The book has been published in 3 languages; Dutch,Swedish and English.

🇳🇱 Daar sta ik dan weer, op de plek waar ik 3 jaar geleden ongeveer precies mijn enkel brak. Een lichamelijke breuk, vrij pijnlijk ook maar goed te zien op de röntgenfoto. Deze val-actie van mij leidde tot een groot stuk emotionele genezing. Genezing van een trauma waar ik al een decennium mee lastig gevallen werd: het lichamelijk overleven van een onbekende allergische reactie dat leidde tot een emotionele bom waiting to explode. En hoe dat explodeerde; met opnames op een psychiatrische afdeling aan toe.
De genezing bleek te komen door te gaan schrijven. Door op te schrijven wat deze 10 jaar mij eigenlijk had afgenomen. En wat deze 10 jaar mij ook weer heeft gegeven.
Dat ik het überhaupt op kom schrijven kwam door het besef dat toen ik in een spaanssprekend ziekenhuis een middel ingespoten kreeg waar ik de inhoud niet van kende. Een doodzonde als je TEN hebt gehad. Maar dit keer barstte er geen bom. Ik moest er door lachen. Ik, een onbekend middel en geen angst om dood te gaan. Wat een bevrijding. Dit, in combinatie met een duidelijk te ziene breuk op de röntgenfoto en het gips wat volgde, zorgde ervoor dat ik het gevoel had mijn leven - zowel lichamelijk als emotioneel - weer in de hand te hebben. Misschien niet volledig onder controle maar wel 'in charge'.
Dus die vrouw met die stok op de eerste foto? Dat ben ik, Kirsten, vrouw, moeder, TEN survivor, genezen van een gebroken enkel en voorbereid op de toekomst. Kom maar op, leven. Ik kan je hebben en ben er klaar voor. 👍🏻 (Maar liever niks breken de komende week, maand, ever 😬😅)
